Underwire

The Circle

Underwire is a soft writing circle for mothers, caregivers, and anyone who quietly carries the emotional weight of others. It's a space for people who are constantly holding things together, often without acknowledgment.

The circle runs in an open window of time so you come when you can and leave when you need without feeling out of place. No pressure, no prep required. Bring a notebook or choose one of our prompt pages. Writing happens in rotating timed rounds with soft prompts centered on themes like invisible labor, resentment, identity, and burnout.

You can share aloud, write quietly, keep to yourself, or contribute anonymously through the Loose Leaf Community Diary. Permission slips (small slips or name tag stickers that say things like “I’m here, but I might not talk” or “I want someone to ask me how I’m doing”) are available to opt out of sharing and still feel included. Expect gentle energy and a room full of people who get it, even if no one says a word.

Quiet Connections

  • A sign in sheet will be available, with designated categories where you can write your IG handle if you’d like other circle goers to become new friends.

  • You are allowed to be as outgoing or antisocial as you want here! There are no expectations–just support.

  • You might want to write your name under:

    • “I’m looking for new brunch besties”

    • “I’m looking for a low maintenance friend okay with inconsistent texting”

    • “I’m just here, but pretend I’m not” (if new friends aren’t your thing!)

Loose Leaf: The Community Diary

  • A community diary is also present at every Softspoke Circle and Soft Mic: a leave-behind journal where guests can contribute anonymous thoughts, lines, or reflections for future readers.

  • Anyone is welcome to write in it - something short, something deep, something raw, something quiet. This journal is for both the artists and the attendees to participate in.

  • You can read the pages that came before, or just leave your own.

  • At the bottom of each page, you’ll find a simple question: Can we share this anonymously on our website or Instagram? You choose. Yes or no. Your voice, your call.

  • The result is a soft ecosystem of care, connection, and community.
